The School of Chemical and Materials Engineering (SCME), National University of Sciences & Technology, Islamabad organized 5th Conference on Emerging Materials and Processes (CEMP21) on 29th – 30th November 2021. CEMP21 provided a platform to bring together researchers, scientists, and engineers from academia, research institutions, and industry to exchange information, experiences, and expertise in the field of innovative materials & emerging processes, hence fostering research relations between the universities and the industry. This year, the theme of CEMP21 was ‘Innovation in Engineering Processes for Sustainability”.
Conference inaugural ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Imtiaz Ali Rastgar, the founder Chairman of the Rastgar Group. The chief guest elaborated the dire need of applied research and appreciated the steps taken by NUST to fulfill this National requirement. Similarly, Dr. Rizwan Riaz (Pro-Rector RIC, NUST, Guest of honor of the event) encouraged the efforts made by the researchers of SCME for basic, applied, and industrial research. Conference was attended by 100+ participants which included Invited speakers, presenters, and attendees.
International invited speakers were Prof. Richard J. Spontak (from USA), Prof. Dr. George P. Demopoulos (from Canada), Prof. Dr. Rak-Hyun Song and Prof. Dr. Soon Jong Jeong (from South Korea), Prof. Dr. Jesus Rafael Alcantara-Avila (from Japan), and Prof. H.J. (Erik) Heeres, (from Netherlands). Additionally, event was also graced by several National Invited speakers including Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mujahid (Rector PAF-IAST), Prof. Dr. Tahir Irfan Khan (VC AUST), Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (VC University of Jhang), Prof. Dr. Mahmood Saleem (VC MCKRUT), Dr. Syed Kamran Sami (Dean, Faculty of Engineering BUITEMS), Dr. Muhammad Zaman (HoD Chemical Engineering, PIEAS), and Dr. Basit Yameen (Assoc. Prof. LUMS). Industrial speakers Dr. Ayesha Mujeeb from Manchester BIOGEL and Ms. Sukaina Kazmi from Baker Hughes also highlighted the industry-based research at the event.
CEMP 2021 focused on various aspects of innovative materials and emerging processes. The goal of this Conference was to bring together physicists, chemists and engineers from academia and industry to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the development of advance materials and chemical processes. This conference provided an opportunity to bring together students, researchers and professionals and provide a platform to create links that may enrich the professional networks among the participants. The conference ended with the thanks note from conference chair Dr. Muhammad Bilal Khan Niazi, HoD Research SCME.
